Whoa, Art and Dole has gone all updated!

The big resource for artists on welfare just got bigger. We’ve now got a proper server, a designer, and a bookshop. With some help from overseas friends, we’re also now open to assist artists internationally.

If you are a professional artist or crafts person - a good place to start is with the Welfare Guides divided into country systems (to the right), or browse the Extra Resources (to the far right).

If you are a politician, journalist - or just interested - you might be interested in reading Art and Dole and the Media where we give a general introduction.

Art and Dole is written by artists, for artists. It aims to give welfare guides where no specialized information exists. It also exists to help give artists support for their careers, and out of both poverty and welfare. If you have something useful to share, type into a relevant comment box. You can be anonymous if you like. Comments, tips, requests or stories…they all help to bring good art karma.

Hey guys!

You should check out this awesome exhibition at Object Gallery – Refashioning the Fashion, open until 24 August.

Take this opportunity to challenge the idea that jewellery is simply adornment, and experience how it can engage with the body and space.
It includes work by Julia deVille, Leah Heiss, Alice Lang, Tiffany Parbs, Gabby O’Connor and Chelsea Gough, and Melinda Young – will definitely challenge and inspire.
Check out the Object website object.com.au for more information!
Object is at 417 Bourke Street Sydney – look forward to seeing you there!

hello,
i know you won’t publish this but….
all it would take would the the unemployed to form a union and lobby Centrelink about
changes to the law.
there are enough voters in this group to blow any gov’t out of office.
Rudd got in on disgruntled unemployed.
iow, your site will not help anyone.
david.

Hi David,
Your thoughts are welcome, and unionization is something we haven’t heard about before, so thanks for your comments.
Art and Dole has already contributed to changes in government policy, through submissions and meeting ministers. We also see our role as helping empower artists with information, whatever the current laws. In that respect, thousands have already helped themselves through Art and Dole.

thanks, admin, for respecting my view.
i fully support your site and what you’d like to do with it.
the stigma of welfare payments (the shame of it), is the main tool that gov’t’s use to stop ppl banding together.
although ppl shouldn’t be “proud” of being out of work, yet shouldn’t be embarassed either.
a union IS the way, and the closest we’ve got so far is ACOSS.
the fact is, there aren’t enough jobs for ppl here anyway, and bringing in more immigrants isn’t solving anything.
it’s just putting more strain on a worn out system.
best,
djrbfm.

here’s another news flash.
two highly talented bass players have died here recently and far too early.
i place the blame for their early demise on the gov’ts here and their total lack of support for artists and venues for same.
